About Me
Hi, I'm Mayra! I majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley. When I'm not busy with school or work, I love binge-watching K-dramas and traveling with my daughter, Desmie. We used to binge-watch The Big Bang Theory, but we've since moved on to K-dramas. You can catch the latest dramas we've watched on my K-drama app, Aigoo!, an app I came up with after completing CS169's project, RottenPotatoes.
We've been to some pretty cool places. In Paris, we saw the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory, and enjoyed the magic of Disney. Plus, the food there was AMAZING—I'm still dreaming about their steak frites, and Desmie still dreams about their pasta. Tulum was loads of fun too. We visited Chichén Itzá—checked off one wonder of the world from the bucket list—and snorkeled with turtles.
We are huge space nerds! We took a road trip to Florida to try and catch SpaceX's Crew Dragon launch... and missed it. But we did get to see a Starlink launch (and flew a plane), which was awesome! We've visited both the Space Center Houston and the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. We even have a NASA shirt signed by astronaut Daniel Bursch. #FLEX

Aigoo!
When I first started watching K-dramas, I thought I would forget which ones I had watched if I didn't keep track. At first, I used Apple's Notes app. I would find the description and add pictures to help jog my memory. Once I learned how to use Ruby on Rails and the TMDb API, I realized it was the perfect solution for me. I can easily search by drama or actor name and display all the information I want. I also added the ability to edit and add a rating.
I'm still working on it. I plan to add OAuth sign-in and ...maybe—the ability for users to leave comments on each drama.

Audience 1st
Software Engineering Team Project, UC Berkeley
Audience 1st is an open-source, all-in-one system for
ticketing, subscriptions, development, and backoffice
functions, designed expressly for the needs, budgets and
constraints of small to medium community theaters.
I worked with a team of 5. We used Agile practices like creating lo-fi mockups of user stories, doing BDD and TDD with Cucumber and RSpec, conducting pull-request-based code reviews, continuous integration, and managing legacy code. It was an incredible learning experience, and I was thrilled to contribute to such a meaningful project.

Actionmap
Introduction to Software Engineering, UC Berkeley
The Actionmap app allows users to learn more about their
representatives and political events in their area, as
well as aggregate, share, and view local news items. This
project was part of the CS169A course at UC Berkeley,
focusing on effective teamwork and modern software
development practices.
We covered the importance of small, effective teams and Scrum methodology, encapsulated in the concept of "Two-Pizza" teams. We learned best practices for branching in version control, ensuring efficient and organized development processes.

Introduction to Software Engineering, UC Berkeley
This project is part of the CS169A coursework at UC
Berkeley, specifically focusing on Test-Driven Development
(TDD) and best practices in Rails.
We covered a lot of ground, starting with basics like FIRST, TDD, and the Red-Green-Refactor cycle. I learned how to write test cases using the Arrange, Act, Assert pattern, which helped structure my code. Learning to isolate code with doubles and seams made my tests more accurate, and stubbing the internet was a game-changer for creating reliable test environments.
This project inspired me to create the Aigoo! app.
